ToyTorture’s Stocking Stuffer II – House of Bascanio Muzzles

Comparison of the Four Different Muzzle Types

There are few individual toys I get so many reader questions about than the House of Bascanio Muzzles. Not a week passes by without a question in my inbox about their quality and play properties and which one I would recommend for a specific scene. Sadly I could not get my hands on one or two of them. But since I have heard good things about them I at least want to give them an honorary mention in the Christmas gift tips this year.

The Back of a House of Bascanio M5 Muzzle with Attached Bulldog Harness

House of Bascanio currently has the broadest range of muzzles for males with 7 varieties in production. Their muzzles itself did not reinvent the wheel. They all follow the basic design that Sinvention popularised over two decades ago. But the House of Bascanio takes the design to the next level. On the higher range models all their straps are made out of garment leather so they hug the skull tighter for less wiggle room and stronger bondage. They also offer a greater scope and ranger of size customization for a better fit. The more elaborate models feature padding all over the muzzle for more comfort when lying down, a thicker and wider collar (the M2 and M3 even has a design come close to a posture collar for stricter bondage) or locking pins for securing the muzzle. Depending on the model, there are considerably more D-rings which as you know if you have been reading my blog for some time is always better. Speaking if anchor points: Some models can be ordered with a bulldog harness connected to them for more security and a uniform look.

The range of the House of Bascanio muzzles starts at CAD209 and goes up to CAD899 for the top of the line model connected to a padded chest harness.

Oxballs Watersport Strap-On Gag

The Oxballs Watersport Strap-On Gag

Vendor: Regulation

Over the years Oxballs introduced several gags, plugs and even systems to turn greedy piss pigs into obedient urinals. All of them had their short-comings. But – to get ahead of myself – this one is a massive leap forward!

Construction

The main body of the gag is an US urinal-like shaped body which roughly measures 105x95mm; the bowel to piss in measures 80x72x45mm. Unlike its predecessors the body and the outlet is cast in one piece. The outlet tube sits at the bottom of the bowel, flanked by juts so the last drops gather in front of it. It is 37mm long and has a diameter of 30mm with a bulge at the end so it cannot slip between the teeth. Another important improvement is that the recess for the mouth now sits above the trough’s rim. So it can be filled to the max, the nose is still close enough to smell the piss but the sub can still break (and the top can easily hold his nostrils together without getting his hands wet when he doesn’t swallow quickly enough…).

Detail of the Trough’s Interior

Left and right, on top and bottom of the body are wings with rectangular holes. Through these neoprene straps are threaded. The each strap has four snap fasteners on one side to adjust the length between 230mm and 300mm to fit most heads. On the other side the four straps meet at the back of the head in an O-ring, yet again closed with a snap fastener. My recommendation is to switch the straps around because it is easier to adjust the length of the straps at the back of the sub’s head instead of fiddling around in front of his face. For this new gag Oxballs added another strap with four snap fasteners which runs across the head. It locks the gag firmer into place.

Detail of the Forehead Strap for an Extra Snug & Safe Fit

As already said the entire body is cast in one piece and made out of Oxballs FLEXtpr. It is non-toxic, phthalate free and thus body and drink safe. It cleanes easily and the liquids drip off beautifully, flowing towards the bottom of the trough 😉

Playing with the Watersport Strap-On Gag

The most important aspect of a piss gag are the performance KPIs: The trough and outlet tube have a capacity of 135ml if you fill it to the brim. While this does not sound much, the large internal diameter of the tube allows for a flow rate of roughly 3600ml per minute. It takes a trained piss sub with a good swallowing reflex to keep up with this amount of liquids entering his mouth. Since the gag is cast in one piece, there is now piss flowing out next to the outlet so the top can monitor how much piss is actually swallowed. While the trough is not too large, with a bit maneuvering two (slim) tops can piss into it simultaneously.

Detail of the Trough with the Wings for the Headstraps

The outlet tube has a very good ergonomic design. The diameter is small enough to prevent lockjaw even during longer periods. This partly due to the FLEXtpr being a soft material so the teeth rest comfortably on the tube. Yet it is sturdy enough to take some strong biting down to pinch off the piss flow. Also it is not too long to make subs even with small mouths gag yet long enough for somewhat effective tongue suppression. Of course, a determine sub can still block the liquid from entering his mouth but compared to other models on the market it takes more effort.

Detail of the Moutpiece

The new strap design is also a huge improvement. The wings on the side really hug the head. The two straps despite not using Velcro anymore and thus limiting the adjustability make for a more secure fit. The perpendicular strap improves the secure fit even more. But the more important aspect is the psychological one. The three straps for most of my testees turned a “simple” gag into a head harness, a piece of gear that enveloped their head. Add to the sense of drama and transformation when the straps are adjusted and fastened. This created for most of them a stronger piggy headspace, a feeling of being “turned” into an object to serve.

Conclusion: Effective and transformative piss head gear.

Best for Self Play – Bondage

The Mr S Asylum Muzzle

I have long thought about if I should really write this piece. Self bondage is a delicate topic. The chances of something going wrong are higher than when you play with someone else – especially when you try to achieve the restriction level that kick most bondage subs. And if something goes wrong, there is no one to help you escape the predicament. I am well aware of devices like ice locks and the time locks that hit the market the past few years. But they are not failsafe and if you get a cramp or some other serious incident happens that requires your immediate attention, you are stuck in them until the time is off. So in this review I will focus on toys that will give you some sense of helplessness but are still easily enough to take off when necessary.

First some pieces of advice for when restricting your movement on your own:

  • I highly recommend sitting or laying down to keep your form accidently tripping and injuring yourself.
  • Get a virtual session sitter. Inform a friend what you are about to do and agree upon a time to check in with them once you are down. Set yourself an alarm clock which leaves you ample time to strip yourself out of the bondage on your own and call them back. If you do not call them in due time, they should inform the authorities about the potential predicament you are in.

The Fetters Chester Binder Restraints

The first I am going to recommend when playing on your own are the Fetters Leather Chest Binders Restraints. With the lockable chest bench has the important momentum of hearing and feeling the lock click, binding the restraints irremovable to your body once locked. For the sake of security and frankly practicality only wrap the cuffs around your biceps which will give you already restrict your arm movement properly. Also, you have something to look forward once the lockdown is over and your top will restrain your wrists to your chest making you even more helpless. Alternatively, take a look at the Fetters Heavy Leather Hogtie Set and just use the thigh restraints. They have the attached ankle restraints to bind these two body parts together, making it impossible for you to move your legs. Theoretically, both pieces of bondage gear could be combined on your own. However, the level of bondage is so intense that the time to take all restraints of in an emergency situation is too long so I strongly advise against combining the two together.

The Regulation Padded Posture Collar

However, there are two good toys matching these pieces of bondage gear. First is the Padded Posture Collar from Regulation. It forces you to keep your head facing straight forward. Since most of our head’s movements are intuitive, a sense of being severely limited will soon creep into your mind. Second is the Mr S Ultra Blindfold. It is the best, most effective and most comfortable blindfold on the planet. Period! It blocks out all the light with being barely noticeable, forcing your to look inside yourself and feel every little element of restriction and your predicament. I consider this specific toy essential to every toy collection because it is SO good. So even if you are not planning on playing with yourself, don’t have this blindfold and want to do some therapy shopping, buy this piece of gear!

The Mr S Locking Front Buckle Gag

For all the reasons above, head gear naturally is great for self bondage. However, I would not recommend combining head gear (except for the Bishop Head Harness) with bondage that restricts your arms like the Chester Binders. The chances of these pieces constricting your breather are very low but still there! So you might need to take them off more immediately than you can undo your arm and hand restraints.

The Mr S Bishop Head Harness with Eye and Mouth Cover Attached

The first piece of head gear is actually my favorite gag: The Mr S Front Buckle Gag. The lavish padding of the front feels like soft leather feels like a gloved hand covering your mouth, making all glove over mouth fetishist like me drool even more – as if the pecker inside your mouth would not be enough. You can this version with a locking buckle to intensify the feeling of being bound even more.

Mr s Leather Bad Hood

If you are a fan of feeling many straps around you or a piece of gear slowly encapsulating you more and more, the Mr S Bishop Head Harness is the head gear to go to. The lavishly used soft leather caresses your skin while the many straps are wrapped around your head. Once fettered you can add a blindfold or a gag for furthermore increase the bondage. To be honest, it takes a bit of practice to figure out in which order and how strong to tighten each strap. But once you have gotten the hang of it, it is an intense sensual experience (Big thanks to ReddyWhp who got me hooked on this experience almost exactly 7 years ago!). A similar experience regarding the soft leather wrapping around your face and straps being tightened gives you the Mr S Asylum Muzzle. Bonus feature: It has a zipper on the back so once adjusted you can put it on fairly easily and due to the lack of an attached collar, you can add the Posture Collar. The easiest to put on piece of head gear is the Mr S Leather Bag Hood. Simply pull it over the head, lightly tighten the leather cord around your neck and enjoy the isolation. The rich smell of soft, high quality leather is intoxicating. The two small nose holes should allow for enough air to flow to you if you breathe slowly and steadily.

As always: NEVER do breath play alone! Please be safe in all forms of self play and stick the two pieces of advice I gave at the beginning of the article.

This is the final piece of this series in which I have also talked about Anal Toys, E-Stim and CBT, Edging & Milking. I hope you enjoyed the articles and I would look forward to seeing you again some time around Easter when the regular review will start again. Until then: Stay healthy, stay kinky, stay isolated!

Asylum Muzzle

The Mr S Asylum Muzzle

Vendor: Mr S Leather

Construction

The main part of this muzzle is a 280x85mm sized piece of leather which has been thermally molded to hug the back of the head. In the center of it a 265mm long zipper embedded in another leather piece runs from the bottom. Both the zipper itself and the surrounding leather piece are framed with a piping to give the leather piece some structure while maintaining its flexibility and softness.

Detail of the Leather Piece which goes onto the Back of the Head

On both ends the leather base strap flows into two small straps on each side. Through rivets small flaps are formed which house normal buckles. The rivets also hold small leather patches in place which prevent hair getting caught in the buckles. Onto the upper buckles and anatomically shapes blindfold can be attached. The lower ones are for a mouth shield. Both pieces feature long straps so the Asylum Muzzle can accommodate almost every size of head from small to really large. Depending on the head shape and size the straps either run above or over the ears but since they are made out of soft leather, they are not distracting.

Front View of the Mr S Asylum Muzzle

All leather pieces and straps are made out of a double layer of soft garment leather. Except the lip which protects the hair from the zipper that is only a single layer with for unknown reasons the soft side faces the zipper and not the hair. Also, the little patches under the buckles are a single layer of a different type of leather that on some of my eight ones feel a bit “cardboardy”; I would have wished for a double layer of the same soft garment leather. But this is just the gear perfectionist inside me speaking. Especially the bottom does not feel the difference and the leather is soft enough to wrap around the head easily.

Playing with Asylum Muzzle

The bad news first: If you are not playing with only one person who has the muzzle adjusted to his size, putting it on is a bit of a pain in the ass. First, attach the blindfold in a medium setting. Then place the main body on the back of the head, wrap the blindfold around the head and place it in the ideal position over the eyes. Then fetter the loose straps n a setting that keeps that position and adjust the already fettered straps on the other side in the same setting. Finally, put the face shield over the nose and attach the straps so that it stays centered. Of course, you can do it the other way round but to block out the most light, it is better to put the mouth shield over the blindfold. Naturally, if the attachments are already adjusted correctly, simply open the zipper and put it on like you would with every other hood.

The Mouth Shield

Now that everything is nice and tight in place, let the fun begin. As complicated and annoying as the putting on process sounds, once the top got used to the design and figured out how to do it swiftly, putting on the different covers, adjusting the strap has the same sensual quality as adjusting my beloved Bishop Head Harness. The Asylum Muzzle is made out of the same soft material so like the head harness it needs no breaking in period but just envelopes the sub’s head as softly and tightly as you desire.

Detail of a Buckle

Unlike with the Bishop Head Harness, the covers are not attached using snap fasteners but are right on the skin. This makes the blindfold more effective and depending on the head shape comes close to the shielding of an Ultra Blindfold. The mouth shield almost feels like a leather glove covering the mouth and the nose, creating the immersion of good glove over mouth play. When breathing in, the soft leather is sucked towards the mouth and nose and restricting breathing just a little bit – similar to the Leather Bag Hood. Not enough to make you suffocate but just enough to remind you that you are confined.

Detail of the Rough Leather of the Zipper and Buckle Cover

Mr S offered the same two cover design in a full coverage hood, obviously called the Asylum Hood. The design is older and through padded eye covers and lacing in the back more extreme than the Asylum Muzzle. I had a chance to try out both and for several reasons chose the muzzle over the hood. First, I am a bit of a claustrophobe so I am more comfortable with the “limited” leather coverage compared to a full hood. The second reason follows out of the first one: The less coverage leaves the ears, part of the forehead, the front of the neck and the top of the head still accessible for reassuring pats and caressing, ear nibbling, choking and whispering. Third, especially at summer events like Folsom or when wearing other heavy gear like straitjackets, overheating can be a problem, especially at the head. The airiness of the Asylum Muzzle helps to prevent that to a certain degree.

Detail of the Zipper

If you look what I have written above, the Asylum Muzzle is a bit like a best of off my favorite Mr S head gear. And it truly is. Yes, it has some drawbacks like no d-rings to attach it to bondage points or restraints to it. But since the leather is so soft, you can easily put a collar around the neck after putting the muzzle on. Or even put another muzzle or head harness over it. If you are not using both covers and the sub is an active one, flinging around his head, the buckles flap around which can be annoying. But I still love the sensual qualities, the perfect equilibrium of isolation and confinement and accessibilities so much that I gladly overlook the weak points of an otherwise unique and great piece of bondage gear.

Conclusion: Sensual, versatile and effective piece of head gear with small flaws.

Leather Open Chin Hood No 2411

The Parus Open Chin Hood

Vendor: Parus

Construction

The hood has a roughly anatomic shape with grommets at the bottom of the nose and a big cut-out for the mouth and the chin. It is made out of soft, fine-grain leather. Because the leather is not lined on the inside, it is very flexible and when tightened really hugs the skull. The construction is a traditional four-panel construction with seams in the middle and one running over each ear. Production-quality-wise this hood follows the high standards you can expect from Parus: All edges are finished with piping so the rough leather edge can’t irritate the skin or be felt uncomfortable; at the seams the leather has been folded, the fold sown together and the flaps sowed onto the body so there are also no rough edges there. To fetter the hood on the sub’s head, you lace it with a piece of leather string. There even is a piece of leather to cover the gap so even bigger heads are completely encapsulated in leather.

While I have bought this hood in classical all black leather, Parus offer this hood in many different colors and with contrast color panels. There is also a version with an attached collar which has a D-ring on the front and can be locked.

Detail of the Mouth Opening, the Breathing Grommets and the Piping and Seam Build Quality

Playing with the Open Chin Hood

The open chin is one of the classic hood designs out there. It not only robs the sub of his sight, leaving him at the mercy of his master, but unlike just using a blind fold, the encapsulation of the face in leather takes away the individuality and just leaves a mouth.

This reduction to just being a serving mouth is a hot turn-on for people. In my circle of friends this hood quickly become popular for leather gimps: While a full hood covers the entire head, it leaves the sub “useless”. With the open chin hood a gag can seal the mouth when not in used and easily be accessed again. One testee uses this Parus hood when bringing new subs into the gimp scene. From a head-harness over muzzle and hood with open eyes and mouth, the open chin hood is the last hood before the completely closed one. The large opening allows for unconstructed breathing so if the sub in training starts to panic, he can not only get fresh air easily but can be comforted by the touch of his master with leather separating them.

Detail of the Lacing at the Back

The most common types of play this hood can be used for are face-fucking and all kinds of tongue worship play, boot-worship and sneaker cleaning.  Unlike similar hoods from other manufacturers the opening for the chin of this Parus model is large enough to not constrict the chin, so the mouth can open up really wide. So taking the entire tip of the boot into the mouth or serving thick dicks is only limited by the sub’s jaw.

For leather fetishists, the open chin hood is a great toy for glove over mouth play. The grommets are easy to cover with a leather glove and the leather around the nose is soft enough for squeezing the nose that the breath play aspect of GoM play can easily be done. Furthermore it is a great mindfuck to have the last piece of bare skin gradually covered by soft leather until the entire head is wrapped in it.

A friend of mine got the yellow version of this hood and uses it for piss play, especially in party situations where his sub is reduced to being the courtesy urinal. While the hood works for this kind of play, I do not recommend it. The high salt-level of piss is bad for the leather. I would recommend getting a rubber hood for this kind of scenes.

Conclusion: Well made hood with isolation qualities which still leaves the mouth usable.

ToyTortures Top 10 Toys: Mr S Ultra Blindfold

Blindfolds are one of the most essential pieces of bondage gear. Taking away the ability t see they not only render the sub helpless even without other restraints but by sharpening other senses make all sensations more intense and introduces the element of surprise into the scene. So robbing the sub off his sight is a common element in scenes. But finding a good blindfold is hard: Most of the thickly padded ones put pressure on the eyes making them uncomfortable to wear over extended periods of time; the more comfortable tend to let light or even glimpses of the surrounding through. So when people ask me which blindfold to buy, there is only one answer…

… The Mr S Leather Ultra Blindfold. Its unique construction with a piping of doubled leather and padding below the eyes prevents any pressure onto the eye and blocks out all light. Two straps with a double d-ring for adjustment and an elastic strap for fine adjustment keep the blindfold comfortably secured.  The Ultra Blindfold is so good, it has become my sleeping mask during flights. The padding below the eyes create little pockets between them and the blindfold’s front. This is due to not spoiling the aesthetics of the front with a seam. But it also has an unintended practical aspect: The pockets catch tears. So this blindfold quickly became a very personal item and piece of memorabilia. It was with me during my first single tailing, the first time getting flogged by two tops, my first sensation play where I laughed tears at the end… So when I lost my original blindfold after getting singletailed on a Friday at LAB (Kids, do not try to recreate that scene!) I was heartbroken. Naturally I replaced the blindfold instantly and treasure it ever since.

The Mr S Ultra Blindfold costs $58.95 and you can learn all about it in my in-depth review.

Parus Isolation Hood No 2406

Vendor: Parus

The Parus Isolation Hood No 2406

Construction

The hood is made out of a single layer of soft European sourced leather. There is thick padding covered with soft leather from behind the ears to the nasal bridge covering both half of the face. From the part all the way down there is lacing to close the hood tightly. To fetter the hood even tighter around the head there are four belts with roller buckles running through riveted leather loops: One around the neck, one over the mouth, one over the eyes and one running from the chin over the back of the head. At the middle of the collar, at the top of the hood and one on each cheek there is a welded D-ring. At the bottom of the nose there are two grommets to allow easy breathing.

The hood is one size fits all. Even though my head is average size the leather strap to lace the hood is too short but it was easily replaced with a longer one. Despite the leather being soft through the sturdy and thus stiff belts and thick padding the hood is rather stiff. In order to mould the hood to the sub’s head and make it soft and comfortable it takes a couple of hours. The body heat and sweat will do the rest.

Detail of the Lacing and the Roller Buckle of the Belts

Playing with the Parus Isolation Hood

With the lacing and the belts the hood can really be fettered heavily onto the head. Despite the little amount of light which bleeds through the nose grommets once you start lacing you quickly feel the world around you being blocked out. So some people who are not used to such intense bondage start to panic right away. In this case I recommend only using the belts to slowly accustom them to the sensation. But once you get used to it, being put into the hood becomes an intriguing part of the scene itself. While the soft, high quality leather is getting wrapped tighter around the head it emits a rich smell. So there is a feeling of being immersed in leather.

Detail of the D-ring and the rivetes Leather Loops

Like all isolation hood it doesn’t take away all the senses. But the padding muffles the sounds (to block out even more use earplugs) and creates the right amount of pressure. Not uncomfortable or putting pressure on the eyes but noticeable enough to create a strong bondage sensation. This in combination with the lack of sight creates a feeling of detachment from the surrounding. For a full immersion the hood needs to be made soft like described above. When the leather is still a bit stiff there can be light coming through the nose grommets. But once the hood becomes a little bit more flexible the padding over the eyes shuts the light out.

The loss of sight and heaving with the warmth and pressure sensation can lead to disorientation of subs. So I recommend not fettering them standing up without having something to hold onto respectively being tied to something. Especially when lying down the D-rings can be used to tie the head down completely. When doing so the top D-ring should be the one tied the strongest so that sub doesn’t suffocate when struggling.

Conclusion: Intense isolation hood

Adjustable Nose Shackle

Vendor: Uberkinky

The Adjustable Nose Shackle from Uberkinky

Construction

The Adjustable Nose Shackle is made out of two square metal plates onto which two 25mm high shackles made out of wire are welded. The tips of the shackles are bent towards each other. Through the metal plate a screw is put through which the shackle can be opend up to 17mm and closed again. The screw head is textured for better grip yet especially with lubey fingers or when wearing heavy gloves it is a bit hare to turn. Below the screw there are two bars to guide the shackles. The entire toy is made out of stainless steel and weights 33g.

Playing with the Adjustable Nose Shackle

This toy might look small and innocent yet it is one of the most intense pieces of bondage gear I know. The nasal septum is a quite sensitive body area. For most bottoms just the weight of the lightly attached Adjustable Nose Shackle is a noticeable sensation. The pain of the shackle being pulled will make most subs comply and move in the desired direction. Of cause if you want to be mean you can tighten it even more for constant and agonizing pain.

Since the shackles are made out of wire instead of solid metal plates like other nose shackles are they can dig a little bit deeper into the tissue which results in better grip. To lead a sub around or incorporate the toy into a bondage layout simply put a little carabineer around the three bars and attach your favorite leash, rope or chain. But keep in mind that this will add extra weight which increases the experienced pain, especially when through dangling around movement energy is added.

The cartilage structure of the septum in combination with the smooth round tips of the Adjustable Nose Shackle is enough to prevent serious injuries if you tighten the shackle cautiously and not too tight. But especially when the bottom already has a septum piercing or the septum is damaged (through drug usage for example) be extra careful when pulling. Serious injuries might occur!

Detail of the Guiding Bars and the Screw to Adjust the Opening

The wide opening enables you to attach the Adjustable Nose Shackle to other body parts like the tongue, ear lobes, the foreskin or the frenulum. Some testees even put it on the sack (take extra care you don’t trap a spermatic cord!) or the perineum to lead their subs around. It is worth to experiment which body part gives the best reaction, where it can be worn the longest time or if you are extra sadistic get two, put them opposite ends of the body, apply some tension and see into which pain the sub will give in the most.

Being made out of stainless steel cleaning and sanitizing this piece of bondage gear is easy: Simply boil it in water for some time and let it dry properly.

Conclusion: Intense piece of bondage gear.

Sinvention Padded Muzzle and Collar

Vendor: Sinvention

Sinvention Padded Muzzle and Collar

Sinvention Padded Muzzle and Collar

With the puppy community still growing and more kinkster discovering their interest in this form of play, the number about questions which gear to buy to live out this specific form of play are quite high. So I was very happy when Sinvention sent me this iconic muzzle as a review sample to answer at least some of these questions.

Construction

The central part of this toy is the heavily padded mouth piece which is lined with soft leather. It covers the chin and the lower half of the face with a little recess for the nose. Onto this mouth piece various straps out of thick and sturdy bridle leather are attached. One runs along the jaw line, a second one runs from the corner of the mouth piece just over the ears to the back of the head and the last one runs y-shaped around the nose to the temple. In front of the forehead another strap runs around the head. All four straps are fettered onto a large piece of bridle leather lined with garment leather that covers the back of the head using locking roller buckles. On top of this leather piece you find a D-ring. From the bottom of the mouth piece runs a short leather belt to a collar which is made out of bridle leather lined with soft garment leather. It is closed again with a locking roller buckle and features three D-rings in front of the collar. The collar can’t be detached so in order to put the muzzle on your sub you eventually have to uncollar him briefly.

Detail of the Padding of the Mouth Piece

Detail of the Padding of the Mouth Piece

The muzzle is available in all black or medical which means tan-colored straps and white lining.

Sinvention is also always open for customizations. So for example you can get the forehead piece padded or add a D-ring at the back of the  collar.

Playing with the Toy

The bad news first: This is no toy for extensive out of the box play. The high quality Canadian bridle leather out of which the belts are made is stiff! It takes very long to be broken in and fit comfortable. Even after being broken in properly some testees found the pressure on the forehead uncomfortable. I addressed the issue with a cotton pad I usually use for poppers play.

Detail of the Locking Roller Buckle on the Collar

Detail of the Locking Roller Buckle on the Collar

After I got the bad stuff out of the way, let me tell you how awesome this piece of headgear is! In the intro text I described it the Sinvention Muzzle as “iconic” and this is a true attribute. I am not sure if Sinvention were the first ones to come out with this specific head gear design which is available in countless low quality and more uncomfortable varieties. But when you look around Tumblr this is probably (one of) the most often used muzzle by kinksters. So why is that the case?

Detail of the Straps which go around the Head

Detail of the Straps which go around the Head

First of all: Once it is broken in, it is very comfortable. You can wear it over extended periods of time even being worn over a hood. The leather straps really adjust to the shape of the wearer’s head. That being said, you can put the muzzle on different subs. But it will feel best if a sub buys the muzzle and is the only one wearing it so the straps can really take on his head shape. In exchange for the long breaking in period you get a really heavy duty piece of head gear. Even with a heavily struggling sub the belts will not tear. With four D-rings you can strap the sub into many different, creative bondage layouts. Because there is a D-ring on top of the muzzle it is even designed to safely tie down the head: Just tie the top D-ring lower and tighter than the ones on the neck so that the sub can’t choke himself when he is trying to get up. The top D-ring comes in also handy for stress bondage, for example when connecting it to an anal hook to force the head back. A quite puppy like stress bondage position is connecting mitts or wrist restraints with the collar D-rings so you create a position like with these rubber bondage suits. Since in this position the entire weight of the sub’s torso rests on the elbows, I recommend padding them well! The only place where I missed a D-ring – especially when you are going for awalk holding your puppy on a leash – was on the back of the collar. But the leather flap which holds the buckle in place is large enough to house a shackle.

Detail of the Features on the Back of the Head

Detail of the Features on the Back of the Head

Speaking of belts and buckles: The belts are long enough with the holes going closely enough to the rivets that the muzzle is very adjustable so it fits every size and shape of head. Since all buckles are locking, the mindfuck of hearing and feeling up to eight locks closing around the head is quite strong, adding to the intense bondage experience.

Depending on how strongly you tighten the belts the muzzle will more or less reduce all communication to a mumbling. Despite the padding don’t expect your sub to be totally quite. But especially after the breaking in the mouth piece if flexible enough to fetter the jaw while a gag is placed in the mouth.

You can speed up the breaking in process by using leather oil on the belts. This is also the best product to care for the muzzle. This kind of oil is also available with black color if over time the color of the belt should rub off. Especially when you often use the muzzle in combination with a ball gag which will cause your sub to drool a lot, I recommend cleaning the inside of the mouth piece with saddle soap on a regular basis.

Buyer’s Guide To Collars

ToyTorture.com has always been sort of a reflection of my own play style and my own desires manifested in toys. As authentic and honest reviews at that approach might create the flaw of it is that I am missing out on entire categories of toys. Sometimes I get asked about these categories over and over. Chastity is one of them, collars is another. Since a collar is the strongest bondage device out there yet I am not really into them I decided at the end of the Heavy Bondage Special to give a short overview of the collars out there. Especially in the paragraph about the symbolism of collars I am making a lot of generalizations. Please do not feel offended if your individual perception is different but celebrate it as the diversity that is the heart of our community. After that I briefly talk about the different materials collars can be made out of. The last and main part of this article are showing different kinds of collars. I sorted the collars into two categories: The first are decorative collars which primarily serve a symbolic purpose and through their designed are not primarily designed to be integrated into play. The latter category are functional collars which are made to be played with.

The Symbolism of Collars

Collars have a strong symbolic meaning in the BDSM community. They are a sign that a person belongs to someone. It is common for top who wants to establish a deeper and long-term orientated relationship with a bottom to put a collar around his neck to show him and the world that the sub belongs to him and is no longer free. This act is called “collaring”. Being collard usually implies a interdependent relationship: The top promises to give the sub something usually guidance, protection and play in exchange for the subs devotion, obedience, trust and loyalty. Due to the powerful contract which a collar symbolizes it is a very special piece of gear which is treated unlike any other. Usually only the top is allowed to put it on and take it off, most of the time also only the top may touch it. Touching the collar of a sub without asking the top for permission is considered highly offensive and even hostile by some people. In some high protocol situations it is even forbidden to talk to a collard sub because you are violating the property of another top. Also in a high protocol environment it is not uncommon for subs to walk around with a collar around his neck but with an open lock. This is a signal that he is open for a top to collar him. Closing the lock just for fun or laughs again is offensive because the sub probably hopes to get at least some of the affection listed above from the persons who closed the lock.

Materials

Collars can be made of nearly every fetish material out there. Most common are leather collars. Because the material is skin friendly and to a certain degree can absorb sweat it is best for long term wear. Rubber and neoprene lack this quality so wearing it for extended periods of time can lead to skin irritation, especially when wearing a collar out of stiff industrial rubber without deburred edges on bare skin. The last common material to mention here is metal. I have seen collars being made out of all different kinds of metal. However I would recommend only ones being made out of stainless steel or aluminum because even when exposed to sweat they do not rust. Other metals like cooper or steel oxidizes. Because a collar through constant movement experiences some physical stress corrosion prevention applied to steel like chrome or zinc wears off and the collar can rust again. Of cause noble metals like gold or platinum do not rust but you have to be quite the posh kinkster to afford such a collar. Metal collars come in form of chain, chainmail, rings or steel cable. When it comes to chain you can choose between welded and forged chain. Welded chain industrial made and thus cheaper and has a deburred weldseam. Depending on the quality the deburration is not as good as it should be so there is a potential for scratches when wearing a collar. So before wearing it check the seams of there are not rough edges.

More uncommon materials I have seen collars made out of are braided rope, jeans cloth, bike chain and tires.

Decorative Collars

Chain

Probably the most common form of the collars and thus comes in various styles (p.e. from Mr S or Regulation). All have in common that they are closed by a pad lock which is mostly worn up front. The most common pattern is the anchor chain which is made out of round links which either come in long or short versions and in various thicknesses. Even when using a small pad lock the link size is usually so large that this kind of collar can’t be worn discreetly under a shirt. Depending on the personal style the chain can be worn longer or tight around the neck. The advantage of this chain is that you can easily attach things to the collar using pad locks or carabiners. Depending on the pad lock quality you can grab and pull the sub on this collar.

Mr S Yellow Colors Aluminum Chainmail Collar

Mr S Yellow Colors Aluminum Chainmail Collar

Chainmail

Chainmail is a material where small metal rings are linked together to form a mesh-like surfaces. Collars out of this material are lighter and smaller and thus more discreet than chains. Of cause they are also more fragile and should not be pulled on. A nifty feature of the Mr S Aluminum ones is that they come in different colors so you can use them a bit as a hanky. If you can a bit more weighted feeling try out the stainless steel one.

Torquator Collar

Stylewise somewhere between a chain pattern and chainmail this collar was originally designed to restrain dogs. So this collar is popular by dog players especially of wild ones. When pulling onto this collar please be careful because serious injuries can be the result.

Cable Lock

Another discreet option is the cable lock collar from Recon. The collar itself is made out of coated steel but since there are no moving links the coating will probably will not rub off keeping the cable from rusting. The two endings are made out of stainless steel with colored rubber accents so again you can show your favorite kink. Unlike the chainmail collar this one is also closed with a lock which has a great psychologically effect. The lock and the collar are small and discreet enough to be worn under a dress shirt during work yet to frail to be pulled on.

Rope Collar

If a closed look is too much of a statement or you don’t like the idea of metal around your neck (after all a collar is all about the headspace), Mr S came up with a rope collar. It is made out of black braided rope and closed with a leather strap and a non-locking roller buckle. If you ask the guys at Mr S nicely the can probably make you this collar also in other colors

Tolan Collar

This is basically an ergonomically shaped ring of steel around the sub’s neck. It is nearly seamless and rather sleek so it can be worn under a business shirt without showing off or attracting attention. Since it is made out of stainless steel it will not rust.

Jougs

I am not sure if to put jougs into this category or the play category because wearing them for an extended period of time is definitely a punishment! Jougs or iron collars are made out of piece of steel, sometimes lined with leather for additional comfort. They are closed by padlocks, integrated locks or screws. Sometimes they come with d-rings welded onto them for added play possibilities. Sometimes following antic models they already have cuffs for the hands attached or even also feet welded with chains onto them. Another version are double rigid irons for the neck and the wrists for real stress bondage.

The Heaviest Parus Steel Collar Weighing 8.5kg

The most sever iron collars I know off are made by Parus in Munich. I already wrote a Christmas gift tip about them last year. They are really well made, almost seamless with the integrated lock and so heavy that with some models I would like to recommend consulting your doctor about disc problems before putting them on!

Regardless of what kind of iron collar you are getting when shopping for a joug please watch for deburred edges otherwise severe abrasions can happen!

Functional Collars

Bondage collar

Another quite common type of collars (p.e. from Mr S or Regulation). They basically are like a cuff style restraint just larger to fit around the neck. So very often you can get matching collars to your existing restraint set. Being made for play they come with d-rings to attach the sub to thing or restraint to the neck. Depending on the individual style some are locking which adds a sense of bondage. A pro tip: If you want to fetter a large boot, p.e. an MX boot, and your restraint set’s ankle cuffs are too small try out a collar. Most of the time they are large enough and will serve you well as a boot restraint.

Fetters Posture Collar

Fetters Posture Collar

Posture collar

A posture collar (look at Mr S or Regulation) is a more intense form of the bondage collar. It is quite wide and usually padded, sometimes it also has an anatomically formed chin rest. The effect of this design is that tilting of the head and nodding is getting extremely difficult locking the head in one place. Usually such a collar will also have d-rings and there are locking versions out there.

Chocking Collar

More a breathplay toy than just a simple collar please use this one with caution! This collar is basically a latigo leather belt that is closed by a rolling buckle tightly around the neck. On the other side of the belt is a small metal loop with a roller feature through which the belt exits. In that end a d-ring is added onto which a leash can be attached. If you pull on the leash the collar will tighten and chock the person wearing it.

Shock Collar

Shock collars were originally designed to train dogs. Onto a nylon collar a remote controllable box with two electrode pins is attached. Usually this kind of collars come with different intensity settings. I implore you to take advantage of these different settings and don’t start out too high! The shock boxes are designed to train even dogs which have thick fur and skin. On human skin they can leave burn marks or even damage the nerve system! There are fetish versions out there which are not so powerful but being a power bottom and pain pig myself I can see the temptations of “the real deal” especially when it comes to dog play. Yet still please be careful. Not sexual kink is worth losing your health permanently.

Fetters Wrist-to-Neck Restraints

Fetters Wrist-to-Neck Restraints

Wrist to neck Restraint

Not really just a collar but the leather version of an iron collar with attached restraints. It is a leather lined locking collar onto which two locking wrist restraints are riveted. These rivets allow for some movement around its axis but otherwise the head has to go where the hand wants to be. Especially with added bondage mitts this will leave the sub quite helpless.

Collars Accessories

Especially with the raise of pup and dog play in the last couple of years collar accessories have gained popularity. Most commonly dog tags are used either in their original purpose to mark the dog and write his name on it. But I have also seen a bouquet of different colored tags as hankies. Of cause a dog needs guidance and sometimes restraining so leather leashes become quite popular.
